Anyone know of a good but not terribly expensive rebuilder they would use themselves to rebuild their engine?

Apparently my 131,000 mile engine is wanting to throwup and so am I. I need someone close by Edmond, OK that will do a great job so I can keep everything as close to stock as possible.

Recommendations anyone?

First of all... Welcome to the GSR! Glad to have you with us and its great to see you found your way to our Forum. Lots of nice folks here happy to help and lend advice however they can.

In regards to your question, you are asking for two opposing things... "good" and "not terribly expensive." At least you didn't add "fast" into the mix.

Honestly, your choice still ultimately depends on your wallet and your intended use of the car when done. Sounds like you want to keep it stock but just freshen up the engine a bit. That's fine but you may want to consider a mild 383 stroker option since most of that cost will be absorbed in a standard R&R rebuild anyway.

I don't know where Edmond, OK, is but if it is anywhere neare Rustang, OK (where ever the heck THAT is  ) you might ask GSR Member Alton "Tuna" Dobbins (Forum username TUNA). If you are nearby Tulsa, contact Ed Wright at FastChip.com as he will surely know a reputable shop. Otherwise, talk to members of the nearest Corvette Club as you can bet they'll have a suggestion.

Good Luck and again, welcome aboard!

Hi Hutch,

I appreciate your response and I realize the "not terribly expensive" and a "good" rebuilder probably don't belong in the same sentence but it was worth a shot

Anyway, I will look around some more as I don't really want to do it myself due to time constraints.

I'm certainly looking forward to meeting and learnig from others on this forum.

Thanks for all you do!

I ended up not having it rebuilt right away. I found one of the original new GM replacement LT4 engines still in the crate and dropped that in. I've since rebuilt the original engine and will be putting it back in soon. Then I'll have a sweet, very low miled LT4 for sale... or, I'll put her in a Camaro perhaps :yesnod:

Tim,
I want first dibs on the spare LT4 when you are ready to sell it. I am in Texas so I can drive up to pick it up no problem. On a side note, we are planning on heading up to the Texas Motor Speedway in May for the Lonestar Corvette Classic. Check out this link. It looks like a great time.

Hope to meet you sometime soon.

Yes sir, I'll be there. There are about 25 or 30 of us coming down from OKC area and more from Tulsa. I think GS052 is coming too! And, yes Hutch we'll take pictures for everyone

I'll definitely let you know when I switch out the engines. Looks like the new engine will only have about 1500 miles on it by then
