As we have mourned the loss of members Jules Grooms and Richard Williard, I decided we had to find a way to honor them. One of which had already been brought up, one that hadn't
Many have talked already about donating to the Chip Miller Foundation in honor of Richard at:
http://www.chipmiller.org/
This is very appropriate as both Richard and Chip were taken from us by the same rare disease, Amyloidosis.
But we have also found a way to honor Jules:
Here in Oklahoma, I have been placed on a committee involved with the annual "Relay For Life" which benefits the American Cancer society. It is a 12 hour walk that happens simultaneous nationwide from 6p til 6a June 13th & 14th.
As my mom is a breast cancer survivor as well as the loss of Jules is still fresh in my mind, the GSR or just you all as individuals can donate in Jules' honor to the team I'm on. A "Luminary Bag" will be made in her honor and be displayed at the event the night of the 13th. All donations made of $25 or more are tax deductable.
We here in this area of Oklahoma have various teams with various fund raising goals. Ours here is $3500.00 for cancer research.
The address for the donations go to:
Adair County DHS
Attn. Joe Merenda, Relay for Life
RT 1, Box 42 Section Line Rd.
Stilwell, Oklahoma 74960
918-704-2584 is my cel number if there are any questions.
All checks need to be made out to the American Cancer Society (not to me OR Relay For Life). In turn, the ACS will mail you the necessary tax info.
I have been nominated to MC and DJ part of the event so i will also be reading Jules' name off during the night as we remember those stricken with this dreadful disease. I am further putting out the call to Oklahoma and Arkansas GS owners that may want to make the drive to little Stilwell Oklahoma and put GS's on display to illustrate the passion Jules had for the cars, I'm working on permission for that so it is just an idea right now.
I would appreciate any and all help I can get from my fellow "skunksters" nationwide as we rally together in June to honor Jules and fight Cancer.
Email me or call with any questions.
Joe
