6/18/09 - WE DID IT! In only 30 days, GSR Members have come through once again. As of today, we have met our goal of raising $5,000 for a full Granite Bench to be installed in the new Courtyard area of the National Corvette Museum. Fantastic! The NCM assures us that our bench will be ready for a grand unveiling ceremoney during this year's Anniversary Celebration over the Labor Day Weekend. Be there!

Given we have some sizable pledges that are still due in, we have actually far EXCEEDED our original goal! Even so, we will continue to collect donations thru July 15th 2009 to give all those that wish to do so an opportunity to participate.

To make it a bit more FUN for everyone, any additional funds over and above our $5000 goal will be used to purchase NCM Corvette Raffle Tickets. For each GSR member that made a donation to our Bench Campaign, his/her name will be entered into a drawing for one of several free NCM raffle tickets for a brand new Corvette. We will hold that drawing shortly after the close of our our extended campaign on July 15th.

The following rules apply...

All donations received in excess of our goal shall be used to purchase NCM Corvette raffle tickets to be given away thru random drawings to GSR Members who donated to this campaign.
Anyone may donate but the free raffle ticket drawing is open to GSR Members only.
Depending on the grand total of donations received, the GSR will purchase a combination $10, $100, $250, and/or $500 NCM raffle tickets.
Member donations must be received prior to midnight, July 15th 2009, to be eligible.
Only one raffle ticket entry per member, regardless of the size or number of donations.
Only one raffle ticket may be won per member.
Any monies remaining not used to purchase raffle tickets will be donated to the NCM as a cash gift from the GSR.
Winners of the raffle ticket drawings need not be present to win. Winners will be notified via email or phone by the GSR within 24 hours of the drawing. The names of the winners will be posted to the GSR Email list and/or the GSR web site.

5/18/09 - At the recent Gathering event at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, GSR Members in attendance met in a club meeting to discuss various ways in which to continue our monetary support of the NCM. Two years ago, we led a highly successful campaign to raise funds to become a Lifetime Club Member of the NCM. That goal was reached in record time! But what do we do now? We considered a donation to the Land Campaign, the Building Fund, or even the General Fund, but feel those donations tend to get lost in the mix. We wanted something that would offer a lasting, highly visible indication of the GSR's support.

Our decision? We chose to kickoff a fundraising campaign to purchase a Granite Bench, engraved with the full GSR logo, for permanent placement at the front entrance of the National Corvette Museum along the brick Walk of Fame.

This impressive bench will be a lasting monument in recognition of our faithful support of the Museum and something which all GSR Members could take great pride in for years to come. The cost for such a bench is as follows:

Full Bench (GSR logo not shared with another organization) - $5,000
Half Bench (GSR logo shared with one other organization) - $3,000
Third Bench (GSR logo shared with two other organizations) - $2,000

The overwhelming opinion expressed by our members has been that we should aim for a FULL bench... the entire bench should be dedicated to the GSR. This represents a substantial investment, but if every GSR Member donates even a small amount, we can easily realize this goal. Our objective is to raise $5,000 by the end of August 2009 so we may announce our bench during this year's Labor Day Anniversary and National Corvette Caravan event. All donations should be tax deductible since the NCM is a registered 501c(3) charitable organization.

It is my hope that each member of the GSR, as the true Corvette enthusiasts that we are, will see the value in such a bold move and choose to support this venture by making a small donation. Granted, that may be a lofty expectation for most organizations, but the GSR is not like most other clubs. I've come to learn that our members are even more special than the unique cars we share a passion for.

I will update the status of our campaign on the GSR home page and/or email list daily. All donations are equally appreciated. Donation amounts will be kept strictly confidential but at the end of the campaign we will publish a list of all those who have contributed on the GSR web site and in the NCM magazine, America's Sports Car. You will also receive an email acknowledgement from the GSR upon receipt of your donation. I am hoping we'll get a lot of small donations from many members rather than a few large ones. That way we can all take some pride and ownership in this worthwhile endeavor.

Please consider expressing your support of the NCM and the GSR by making a donation today. No donation is too small and your support will be greatly appreciated.

Please make checks payable to the NATIONAL CORVETTE MUSEUM. Be advised your check will be held for up to 90 days. We will not mail our checks to the NCM until we have enough funds to purchase the bench, or August 31st, 2009, whichever comes first.

If we fail to reach our target goal of $5,000 by 8/31/09, we will canvass the GSR membership to see if they wish to opt for a 1/2 or 1/3 bench, or extend the campaign until sufficient donations have been collected to purchase a full bench.

If we exceed our target goal, any excess funds will be used to purchase NCM Corvette raffle tickets which will be given away to those that contribute via a random drawing at the enf of the campaign.

The NCM is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization so your donation may be tax deductible.
